Waitangi Golf Club: A Historic and Scenic Golfing Experience

A Piece of New Zealand History

The Waitangi Golf Club is situated on land where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, making it a significant landmark in New Zealand’s history. The course’s proximity to the historic Treaty House adds a special touch to the golfing experience, allowing players to connect with the country’s rich heritage.

A Stunning Coastal Setting

The club’s elevated position above the Bay of Islands provides breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding islands. The emerald and blue hues of the water, combined with the rolling hills and native bushland, create a picturesque backdrop for your round.

A Challenging Course

Waitangi Golf Club is not just about beauty; it also offers a challenging test of your golfing skills. The narrow fairways and tight greens demand precision and accuracy. The course has undergone several enhancements over the years, including a 2011 redesign by Kristine Kerr, ensuring that it remains a modern and enjoyable golfing experience.

Signature Holes

Front 9: Classic parkland setting in native bushland with mature trees.

  • 3rd (Par 5) extended 70+ yards in 2016 and plays to an elevated green
  • 6th (Par 3)

Back 9: More challenging, open to the sea links-style. Holes are on clifftops and views are spectacular.

  • 10th (Par 3) Breeze off of the sea blows directly into face as hole slopes left- so watch the bounce if dry.
  • 11th(Par 5) Long downhill sweeping left plays to a generous area but also a downhill lie. The approach is then into a blind green which sits on a peninsula, so this is tight to the sea!
  • 12th(Par 4) Tee water directly to left this is a drive-able green at around 273yds. Bunkers to the left can provide recovery (rather than the ball into the ocean).
  • 14th (Par 4) dogleg left overlooking the Bay of Islands and just a few meters (or a suggested five-iron) away from the Historic Treaty House this hole demands accuracy from both the box and on approach
