Nestled amongst the Remarkables and jutting into Lake Wakatipu Jack’s point boasts of spectacular golf conveniently located just outside of Queenstown.
Renowned worldwide as Queenstown’s premier golfing destination, Jack’s Point offers a truly alpine experience. Its breathtaking setting, defined by the surrounding mountains and lake, will leave a lasting impression.
Not only does Jack’s Point enjoy the stunning backdrop of the Remarkables, but it also offers panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu. Designed by renowned golf course architect John Darby, the course is a testament to his ability to seamlessly integrate the natural landscape into the golfing experience. With minimal excavation, Darby has created a course that is widely recognized as one of the most beautiful in New Zealand.
The course’s name, Jack’s Point, honors the memory of Jack Tewa, a local hero who saved a fellow traveler from drowning in Lake Wakatipu in the winter of 1862. Tewa’s bravery earned him a medal from the Royal Humane Society of Britain, which is now displayed at a nearby museum.
The out-and-back layout at Jack’s Point features infinity greens, stone walls (which players must carry over), and generally wide fairways. While the course can be challenging, especially when the wind blows off the lake, the playing surfaces are always meticulously maintained.
Given the breathtaking views at Jack’s Point, it’s challenging to pinpoint specific signature holes. However, a few standout holes offer particularly memorable experiences.
The 7th: Arguably the most photographed hole on the course, this elevated tee box presents a stunning challenge as it plays towards the water.
The 3rd: This 130-yard par-3 requires a precise shot over the green, with the lake and the Remarkables providing a breathtaking backdrop.
The 8th: A scenic par-5 that runs alongside Lake Wakatipu, this hole demands a long tee shot to clear fairway bunkers and a challenging approach to the elevated green.
Course Information:
Location: Queenstown, New Zealand
Length: 6,986 yards
Par: 72
Club Pro: Andrew Dorsey
Architect: John Darby (2008)
