Gulf Harbour Country Club: Course with Stunning Views

A Masterpiece by Robert Trent Jones Jr.

Designed by renowned architect Robert Trent Jones Jr., Gulf Harbour Golf Club opened its doors in 1997 and quickly gained recognition by hosting the 1998 World Cup of Golf. The course boasts dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking sea views, particularly on the back nine, where golfers are treated to panoramic vistas of the Hauraki Gulf.

Situated on the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, just 40 minutes from Auckland’s city center, Gulf Harbour’s “Trilogy” of holes—the 15th, 16th, and 17th—provide a formidable test for golfers of all skill levels, especially when the winds pick up. The front nine of the course features more rolling hills than the back nine, which gradually slopes towards the water.

Signature Holes

7th, Par-3: This 328 yard par-4 is a superb risk/reward hole which showcases Jones’ excellent use of water. A dogleg flanked by a lake tempts long hitters to go straight at the green.

16th: A par-4 dogleg right winding along the cliff tops. Measuring 460 yards, long hitters will be tempted to shortcut across the water and onto the green. Failure to carry the distance risks the ball landing on a downslope off of the green toward the cliff face. Success however is measured with an Eagle attempt.

17th: Par-5 552 yard hole follows the edge of a cliffside high above the breakers.
