The Hills Golf Club, located just outside of Queenstown, is embarking on a transformative journey. The American team behind Tara Iti and Te Arai Links have partnered with the Hill family to reimagine the course. The Hills, which has hosted the New Zealand Open and also has a recently designed nine-hole par-3 course, is set to undergo a comprehensive redesign. Renowned Australian golf course design firm Ogilvy, Cocking & Mead (OCM) has been tasked with creating a new routing that will enhance the course’s playability, walkability, and aesthetic appeal. OCM’s portfolio includes work on Kingston Heath, Peninsula Kingswood and Victoria GC in Australia… and Medina in the USA.
“We are excited to bring our expertise to The Hills and create a truly exceptional golfing experience,” said a representative from OCM. “Our goal is to design a course that challenges golfers of all skill levels while preserving the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape.”
As part of the redevelopment, the Hills will feature a new routing that will connect greens to tees more efficiently, making it easier for golfers to walk the course. The designers are also adding a short par-3 hole and making the 15h more driveable, ensuring that the course remains engaging for players of all abilities. In addition to the course redesign, The Hills will also undergo a significant renovation of its clubhouse and facilities. The clubhouse will be expanded and modernized, featuring a new golf training facility, fitness center, and private dining and meeting rooms. The goal is to create a welcoming and luxurious environment for members and guests.
To complement the golf course and clubhouse, The Hills will also develop a small community within its gates. This community will offer a variety of member/guest accommodation, homes, and custom homesites. The project is expected to begin in April 2026 and be completed in 2028, positioning The Hills Golf Club as a premier destination for golfers and travelers alike. With its stunning location, world-class golf course, and luxurious amenities, The Hills is poised to become a must-visit destination for those seeking a truly unforgettable golfing experience.
