Many
visit Waitangi for its significance to New Zealand culture and
history. The golf course sits on a significant piece of land for the country's history and the grounds are near where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840.
This course is a stone's throw from the seaside towns of Paihia and Russell. It has a beautiful view over the Onewhero Bay. On a sunny day the blue is almost Caribbean in nature- with emeralds and blues contrasting the islands in the bay. Playing at 6571 yards from the tips, the Waitangi Golf Club has superb views of both the Bay of Islands as well as natural Kiwi forest and rolling landscape and clubs in the US would charge an arm and a leg for a course with this type of access. As the Northland area has a temperate climate all year, players can expect a sea view complete with boating and occasional dolphin sightings.
Difficultly with this course comes from its narrow fairways and tight greens. Originally completed in the 40s this course has added 400+ yards in length over the past couple of years and was partially refreshed in 2011 by Kristine Kerr (Pegasus GC).

Play Info and Signature Holes
Front 9: Classic parkland setting in native bushland with mature trees.
- 3rd (Par 5) extended 70+ yards in 2016 and plays to an elevated green
- 6th (Par 3)
Back 9: More challenging, open to the sea links-style. Holes are on clifftops and views are spectacular.
- 10th (Par 3) Breeze off of the sea blows directly into face as hole slopes left- so watch the bounce if dry
- 11th(Par 5) Long downhill sweeping left plays to a generous area but also a downhill lie. The approach is then into a blind green which sits on a peninsula, so this is tight to the sea!
- 12th(Par 4) Tee water directly to left this is a drive-able green at around 273yds. Bunkers to the left can provide recovery (rather than the ball into the ocean)
- 14th (Par 4) dogleg left overlooking the Bay of Islands and just a few meters (or a suggested five-iron) away from the Historic Treaty House this hole demands accuracy from both the box and on approach
