Set on the picturesque Karikari Peninsula, Carrington is located close enough to the ocean to experience on-shore winds but far enough away to be more of a wetlands course in design. The open layout provides holes with sweeping views of the nearby beach as well as dense flax and challenging bunkering.
For
those who may have played this course prior to the Matt Dye (nephew
of Pete Dye) 2003 redesign you may not recognize much from the past. The back nine of the course underwent significant changes and, as a whole, this track now plays at a very modern 7200+ yard length, while
offering the ability to accommodate tee boxes for players of all
abilities.
Located within a resort between bodies of water this course actually plays as an inland course with a view. It encompasses a variety of terrain (although not links style) and features the challenge of water throughout. A claim to fame is that this track boasts both one of the longest and shortest holes presented in the country, however the views of the ocean, wetlands and beach are enough to keep one's attention. No gimmicks needed.
In 2015 Shanghai CRED announced plans to develop conference center, ships and a large hotel on the premises. If you are interested to play this course in its current configuration we would suggest to do so quickly.

Signature Holes:
7th: A perfect microcom of Carrington Estate GC as a course, this par-3 begins with a 180 yard tee shot from a raised box over water that at first seems benign. Yet with a green slopes back-to-front severely many players will be baffled by its deception.
14th: This 622-yard monster is one of the longer holes one will ever play.
15th: The approachable par-4 provides a bit of respite after 14th- with a tee shot that first carries a bush-clad ravine and flies then downhill. All abilities can feel super-human with their first swing on this hole. From the elevated position this hole demonstrates Carrington's potential. The beautiful Ranganunu Bay and nearby Mount Camel offer the beauty of the Northland perfectly.
