The second stop on "The Trip of a Lifetime" was the super-exclusive Tara Iti.
This private club is a Tom Doak design and one of the most recent clubs built in the country. The piece of land it sits on is a sandy base, and it is a true links course. For those hunting the top courses in the world to play this is a course that should be on the list.
As a private club outsides guests are allowed to visit and play, but are asked to stay on property in order to receive the full experience. This in itself is not a problem, as Tara Iti is also a beautiful setting for a coastal luxury property.
Tara Iti. Wow. It's an increidble site with some truly inspired architecture; every hole asks interesting questions. When it's firm, fast and windy (like today) this course is a muthah, with wall-to-wall fescue and greens that are extreme even by doak's standards.
