Discover Millbrook Resort: A Golf Experience in Queenstown

If you’re heading to Queenstown for golf, there’s one place you shouldn’t skip: Millbrook Resort. Sitting just outside Arrowtown, it’s got the full package. We’re talking three different 9-hole courses, incredible scenery, and a resort that makes it easy to slow down and enjoy the whole experience.

Three Nines, Endless Possibilities

One of the best parts of Millbrook is how flexible it is. You’re not locked into the same 18 holes each time you play. Instead, the course offers three separate 9-hole layouts:

  • The Arrow Nine: a great warm-up with wider landing zones
  • The Remarkables Nine: full of elevation changes and tougher lines
  • The Coronet Nine: the newest and most dramatic in terms of scenery

You can mix and match two of the three for your round. It keeps things fresh, especially if you’re staying more than one day.

Each nine has its own character. One minute you’re hitting into a valley framed by native tussock, and the next you’re navigating a par-4 with water snaking across the fairway. The layout never feels repetitive.

What It’s Like to Play Here

We always suggest players arrive early, not just to hit a few balls on the range, but to soak up the quiet and the mountain light. Morning rounds often start with mist on the fairways and the sun catching the peaks. In summer, it’s light until nearly 10 PM, so late rounds are also a great option.

Millbrook plays just over 7,000 yards from the tips, but with four tee boxes, you can dial the challenge up or down. The fairways are generous in places but tighten near the greens, and with 61 bunkers across the course, smart club selection is key.

It’s not just about keeping your score down. This course encourages you to take your time, whether it’s watching a falcon circle overhead or lining up a putt with snowy peaks in your periphery.

Planning Your Visit

Here are a few helpful tips from travelers (and our own experience):

  • Best time to play: Late spring through early autumn offers mild temps and great turf conditions.
  • Walking or riding? The course is spread across rolling ground, so unless you’re feeling fit, a cart helps.
  • Stay onsite or nearby: Millbrook’s villas and nearby lodges offer easy access and a good night’s rest before or after your round.
  • Add a wine stop: Central Otago’s wineries are just minutes away. A tasting at Amisfield or Gibbston Valley rounds out the day nicely.

Tournaments and Prestige

Millbrook isn’t just a resort course, it hosts the ISPS Handa New Zealand Open, which speaks to the quality and conditioning of the layout. If you play after the event, you’ll often find the greens still rolling fast and true.
